Trichlor or Dichlor ?

The key difference between trichlor and dichlor is that the Trichlor TCCA (or trichloro-s-triazinetrione) is a dry solid compound having the highest possible chlorine content (around 90%) whereas, the Dichlor SDIC (or dichloro-s-triazinetrione) is available as its dihydrate form or the granular form with 56% to 60% chlorine content.

Furthermore, this compound is completely soluble in water, and it does not contain any calcium. It is suitable for hard water cleaning as well. The pH and the total alkalinity of water considerably reduce when we add trichlor to the water. When it dissolves in water, it produces hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion (also known as free available chlorine). The hypochlorous acid acts as a biocide.

Dichlor (SDIC,Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate, NaDCC,Sodium Dichloro-S-Triazinetrione – NaCl2C3N3O3)

Dichlor has an available chlorine level of 56% or 60%, 56% normally.The advantage of Dichlor is that Dichlor is a more balanced chemical for pool and spa treatment,Using Dichlor will contribute to the level of cyanuric acid in the pool. By weight, Dichlor is 57% cyanuric acid; for each ppm of chlorine added, 0.9 ppm of cyanuric acid (Chlorine Stabilizer) is added to the water.

The pH level of Dichlor is nearly neutral (7.0), and won’t affect the pH of the pool water noticeably, is fast dissolving and because it’s sodium based, it won’t contribute to calcium levels in pools.Dichlor is also completely water soluble. It also produces hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion when dissolved in water. Dichlor is typically sold in granular or tablet form. However, it depends on the its form: dihydrate form or anhydrous form.
